Local Artist Sylvia Savala
Mexican American artist Sylvia Savala is a
painter and a writer. She probes her Chicano roots through oil, canvas, ink
and paper. This native Fresno woman has ability and style. Through
painting and prose, Sylvia explores her ideological creativity with robust
themes about feminism, Mexican American culture, her Catholic Church
upbringing, and Latino pride.
Sylvia Savala became interested in art at a
very young age. She received an Associate of Arts Degree from Fresno City
College, then attended Fresno State where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Spanish.
Sylvia Savala pursued her interest in art
in her mid 20's. Fueled by courage and true grit, she began to go after her
dream of becoming a professional artist. The inspiration for some of her
work has come from her travels to Hawaii, New York, Mexico and Italy.
Additionally she studied printmaking in Mexico City.
