A visitor's guide to the blues.
If you ever find yourself in the heartland of California
and have a hankering for the blues, you won't be
disappointed. Fresno has a rich blues history and an
active scene. Many blues fans from out-of-town go away
amazed at what good music is going on here.
My favorite artists are Hosea Leavy, Harmonica Slim, Ron
Thompson, MoFo Party Band and Blues West. There are
literally scores of other talented artists and bands who
play regularly. The information is current as of late
1997 but I'd recommend a call before you go to any of
these places.
Fred averages about one blues gig a week with some local
acts. It is the only place to regularly feature
out-of-town blues shows. Cover charges are typical but
rarely over $15 for even the biggest acts. Covers for
local artists vary from free to $5. No food but there is
a passable Chinese place next door and several very good
places just down the street in the main part of the
Tower District.
